Former Hat Workers revive old Custom
Sunday, November 25th, 2007 by Geoff Wilding
Dozens of former workers in the hat trade met for lunch at Trinity Church, in Coleshill Road, on Friday, November 23rd.
St Clement is the patron saint of hat-makers and, in the old days, workers used to decorate the factory workrooms and hold a tea party with dancing. The tradition was revived four years ago with the church party.
The Rev Pauline Warner, who hosted the party, said:
“This event is not only an opportunity for former colleagues to meet again but a celebration of a very important aspect of the history of Atherstone.”
