Grendon Library and others attacked by Vandals

Tuesday, November 27th, 2007 by Geoff Wilding

VANDALS have smashed windows and damaged paving slabs at three libraries in North Warwickshire, causing thousands of pounds of damage.

Grendon library in Little Brum, Grendon, a handrail was damaged and the slabs beneath also damaged Bedworth Heath library in Heath Road, Bedworth, was closed after seven large double windows were damaged on the Smarts Road side of the building and two further windows were broken at the front. The estimated cost of repairs to the library is £3,000.

At Keresley Newland library, in Bennetts Road, Keresley End, eight double-glazed windows were broken. All three incidents took place on the same night.

Police say youths have been seen gathering under the library canopies and they would like to hear from any of them who may have information to help the inquiry.

Detective Sergeant Mick Reardon said:

“It’s important to prevent this problem escalating. To help us do this, I would ask that the public are vigilant and keep a look out for potential problems. Parents should also make sure they know where their children are and what they are doing during the evenings.”

He added:

“Investigations into all three incidents are ongoing and extra patrols are being carried out by safer neighbourhood team officers to prevent further damage in the area.”

Anyone with information is asked to phone the crime desk at Bedworth police station on 02476 643 111, extension 3432.

Come on Mums and Dads, where are your children?
I have lived in a North Warwickshire village for over 22 years. Had two children of my own who are now grown up and who still believe in our local police. What is wrong with these vandals? and bullies.
I have also been terrorized by vandals.. over the last three years. Double glazed window smashed, shed broken into, smoke bomb put through the letter box burning curtains, carpets. Fence broken, upvc double glazed door kicked in. The police came all but one time and of course heard nothing since. We just have to keep paying higher insurance excess. Neighbours never seem to see anything but are probably afraid to tell the police in case they get abit of the same. I`m in my sixties now and am finding it more difficult to cope with these Yobs and would love to move house. I know I am dreading October when the clocks go back and they will be back to roaming and damaging this lovely village. Can some one out there please listen and do something other than sit back and moan about the police and the government.
