Express delivery giant TNT has achieved a place among an elite band as one the UK’s first ‘Investor in People’ business Champions.
TNT, which specialises in the time-sensitive, business-to-business express delivery market, was one of only16 out of more than 36,000 organisations accredited to Investor in People (IiP) to earn the prestigious honour.
The IiP Champions programme recognises those employers that have boosted the performance of their businesses through the way they manage and develop their employees. As one of the Champions, TNT will work with IiP to share its expertise with other employers to promote best practice in all areas of people development.
Ruth Spellman, Chief Executive of Investors in People, presented the ‘Champion’ award to TNT at the company’s headquarters in Atherstone, Warwickshire.
Ruth said: “TNT has been working with Investors In People for a decade; they have embedded the culture of valuing their people and treating them as a very important resource. I am delighted that they have won the accolade of Investors In People Champion which is a great distinction and will enable others to learn from their experience.”
Accepting the award, Tom Bell, Managing Director of TNT Express Services UK and Ireland, said: “We are honoured to be have been chosen as one of the country’s first Investor in People Champions.
“At TNT our people are our most valuable asset so we invest extensively in their training and development. We believe passionately in ‘home grown timber’ - maximising the potential of each individual and offering them every opportunity to progress through the company. Investors in People has been instrumental in helping us to implement and promote this ethos.”
Tom added: “Since we first achieved the IiP standard in 1994 we have enjoyed higher productivity, improved staff morale and seen a significant positive impact on the bottom line. We very much look forward to sharing our experience with other organisations through this new role.
