Environmental Plans at Shale Tip Worry Residents

Monday, February 19th, 2007 by Geoff Wilding

Local residents are reported as being ‘concerned’ over plans to use the Baddesley Shale Tip as a high tech environmental power producer.

Merevale Estates have made an application to use the site, opposite the former Baddesley pit as Bio-power Plant to burn organic waste from the estate and convert it into electrical power. Other plans include converting slurry and other waste. It is estimated that the power generated could run 1200 homes. Before work could commence on the Bio-Mass plant around half a million tons of shale waste would need to be removed and transported by trucks.

Residents however whilst acknowledging the green issue feel that the site could be better sited in nearby industrial areas. The matter now rests with Warwickshire County Council for further Consideration.
