Clean up Justice

Monday, February 19th, 2007 by Geoff Wilding

Police were called out following reports that a group of local young people were attacking a telephone box in Coronation Avenue, Polesworth.

Upon arrival PC Nicholson found nine local males and females aged between 15 and 17 years old busily covering the phone box in snow spray.

PC Nicholson said

None of the individuals were prepared to admit to causing the graffiti which although not permanent was unsightly and would come off on a persons clothing if they were to use the telephone kiosk. As such one of the youths was instructed to fetch a bowl of soapy water and some cloths and between them they cleaned the kiosk possibly leaving it in a better state than it was before they camealong. Whilst speaking to the youngsters one of them tried to hide a cannabis grinder which contained a small amount of the drug consistent with personal use. In line with policy, he was taken home and dealt with in front of his father.

Inspector Paul Judson added

Criminal damage makes up a third of all crime nationally and causes considerable concern to the public as it affects their immediate environment and quality of life so we try to deal with it swiftly and seek to address the situation. This was excellent work by PC Nicholson who got to the incident quickly and dealt with it extremely effectively.
