It’s all in the Recipe for Masters Bakers

When local bakers ‘Masters’ of Long St. Atherstone heard that Greggs, a major national chain was about to open next door then of course they were worried.
Events however have taken an opposite turn to that which they anticipated.
Baker, Mejar Singh Gill and his wife Kulwinder have been running the business together with his father since 1984.
My father bought the business from the original Masters family bakers. He immediately realized that the original baking methods and recipes were the key to success. Masters passed on these recipes and they are a closely guarded secret.
Masters Bakers sells it products throughout the midlands to trade suppliers, schools, markets, pubs and clubs and of course through the Long St. shop.
Mejar was originally destined for a career in law, but due to the popularity of the business was soon pulled in to help.
In the twenty odd years he has been in the town his involvement with the local community involves The Dickens Committee, Chamber of Trade and The Town Forum, he is also an active member of The Lions.
One of our proud boasts to fame is that our secret recipe pork pie is now sold to the trade in Melton Mowbray, the so called home of the pork pie. said Mejur, It’s a bit like taking coals to Newcastle.
Our original worries about competition have proven to be false. We welcome the arrival of such a major chain to Atherstone. It proves what we already knew; this town is on the up. The shoppers in the town deserve a choice of course, but they seem to value original home baking and our own secret little twists to flavour. The big boys can move product in bulk but they cannot replicate local taste.
