Adders Hockey Roundup

Atherstone Adders Mens 1st X1 1 Ludlow 3

This top of the table DTZ league clash saw second placed Atherstone pitted against table-topping Ludlow and showed how far the Adders side has progressed this season but also showed how far the Adders have to improve in order to become a real driving force in the league. The Adders showed their usual fighting spirit but Ludlow showed that extra bit of quality which the Adders lack at this moment in time.

The visitors played simple and effective hockey and put the home side under presure from the opening whistle.

Ludlow had the lions share of the ball in the first half and were two goals ahead by the time the first half was complete.

In the second half the Adders came out fighting and pushed hard for a goal and inevitably Ludlow took advantage of the extra space and added a third goal of their own.

The Adders though nevergave up trying and fought hard to the final whistle. Their reward came towards the end of the game as the home side won a string of short corners which led to the skipper Richard Stubbs notching a consolation goal.

A slow 1st half saw some sloppy play from the Adders who never really showed their superiority. However in the 2nd half all of this changed with Steve Labram scoring a memorable hat trick with notable assists from Luke and Fraser.
Everyone played their part with the Adders spending more time in the opponents half than they have for a long time.
Mark Wintersgill in the Adders goal was quoted as saying he was bored!!! There’s no pleasing some people he normally gets more action than anyone.
Hopefully this new found vigour will be carried on into the next match.

Junior Fixtures
The boys team played 6 against a Tamworth 7. Despite this they put up some steely defences which Tamworth found hard to exploit even though they had the extra body.

The first match was drawn 0-0 with Lloyd, Luke, Andrew, Aaron (keeper), Jamie and Liam. Whilst in control the mighty six just failed to convert the display into a win. They also drew the second match 0 - 0 with Liam transferring to the mixed VII and players were Lloyd, Luke, Andrew, Aaron (keeper), and brothers Jamie and Joe (making his unsheduled Adders debut).
This time the match was very even.

The last match was lost 0-2 but the boys should take great heart and could have done even better had Andrew and Luke been able to keep up their level of performanace throughout all three matches. Good to see their stamina levels improving with every game.

The mixed team played against an all boys Tamworth outfit. They lost the first two games 1 - 3 and 0 - 2 the superb Adders goal coming from Chris Dawe. Following some quick coaching and positional reshuffling they ended up deserved winners of the last game 2 - 0.
All players should be congratulated on how they responded to and implemented the coaching tips given, which can only bode well for the future. Chris and Jess scored the two goals, this was Chris’s second goal of the morning which sealed an excellent performance from him in all 3 games. Other players were Liam, Ellie, Ciaran and Jade (keeper).
