Low Mileage Bacon Wins Top Prize

Saturday, March 10th, 2007 by Geoff Wilding

Chris Green, owner of Bates The Butchers in Atherstone is celebrating an important industry award.

His own home cured bacon has been recognized for it’s excellence with a gold award presented by The British Pig Executive.

Chris beat off all comers from The East Midlands to win the coveted award in February at Peterborough.

“This is what locally produced food is all about.” Said Chris.

The pigs are reared at The Poplars Farm in Sheepy Magna, taken to an abattoir at Arley and then back to me at Atherstone for our own unique production of the finished product. Compare these food miles with the way that supermarkets move product around. It is obviously a great honour to be recognized in this way. We are proud to produce a top line product and we thank Stephan Parkinson of The Poplars Farm for his excellent rearing of a superior pig which leads to a superior bacon.

I’m very proud of my Dad! He works really hard, is incredibly talented at what he does, and deserves to be recognised for his achievments.
