Kids in Woodland Drinking Binges

Monday, February 19th, 2007 by Geoff Wilding

Awarning has gone out to parents about the scale of underage drinking near Atherstone.

The stark warning comes from the head of the Warwickshire advice and careers service, Dave Fraser. He says he knows of children knocking themselves unconscious during illicit drinking sessions in Hartshill. Mr Fraser, operations manager at Connexions North Warwickshire, highlighted the issue in a talk to members of Warwickshire County Council’s children, young people and families overview and scrutiny committee. He said,

In the Hartshill area they get the drink during the day, hide it in the woods and go back at night to drink it.

The ‘rec’ woods as they are known, are saddly now a litter filled, glass laden mess and the ‘kids’ that drink in there are not only damaging themselves but also everything around them,a weekly friday night police presence would be enough to stop it!
